BANK RATE CUT FROM 1.5 TO 1.0.......................................................


The nine-member Monetary Policy Committee, led by Governor Mervyn King, cut the bank rate to 1 percent from 1.5 percent. The decision, which was widely expected, came just ahead of the European Central Bank's interest rate decision expected later in the day.
