WILD CARD A WILD THING......
the American viewing audience (and anyone else picking it up overseas and elsewhere) got its first chance to send some people packing. American Idol changed the way it does things again this year, not counting the addition of Kara DioGuardi. To get to the Final 12, you must get through the Top 36. This is being done in a two-part process for Season 8. First, the audience votes forward three of the 12 on a given night. Those three become part of the Final 12 contestants. Since playing along gets you to nine contestants, where do the last three come from? The second part of the process is a wild card phase. Of those 27 not chosen to move forward on the three elimination rounds, the judges choose from those eliminated to be "wild cards," and they and the number four top vote receivers of the three previously aired elimination rounds will "sing for their lives," so to speak. The top three "wild cards" will be chosen by the judges, not the public, and will move forward into the Final 12
