lincoln s birthday

lINCON'S BIRTH DAY CELEBRATIONS:::::::::::::::::::::::

February 12th marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of an extraordinary American: Abraham Lincoln. Born on the frontier in an isolated log cabin, Lincoln experienced profound hardships during early his life. Although he had few opportunities for formal education, he loved books and learning. A self taught man, he moved away from his family’s farm to become a gentleman lawyer and political leader. He was often under estimated. Critics viewed him as a simple-minded backwoodsman who was unqualified for the demands of high office.

The nation was divided on the day that Abraham Lincoln assumed the presidency. The Civil War was a dark cloud threatening the future of the Union. Despite his humble beginnings, Lincoln rose to meet each challenge. One of his most significant actions was to draft the Emancipation Proclamation which changed the course of our American history and culture. Sadly, this man who even today continues to inspire our nation died on April 15, 1865 as a result of an assassin’s bullet
